Evidencias directas de herbivorismo en coprolitos de perezosos extintos (Mammalia: Pilosa: Megalonychidae) de Cuba / Direct evidences of feeding of plants in coprolites for extinct sloths (Mammalia: Pilosa: Megalonychidae) of Cuba

Resumen

RESUMEN
El análisis microscópico de coprolitos pertenecientes a la fauna de perezosos de Cuba se realiza por primera vez. El carácter herbívoro de estos animales se ha inferido a partir de la estructura de los molares y por afinidades con sus ancestros. El presente trabajo realiza un aporte a este conocimiento en el sentido de ejemplificar grupos vegetales consumidos por estos animales a partir del estudio de los almidones contenidos en coprolitos fósiles. Las muestras proceden de la localidad Ciego Montero, Cienfuegos y Quemado de Güines, Villa Clara, ambas localidades al centro del país. La dieta de estos animales y el realizar inferencias  paleoambientales son aspectos que hoy tienen mayor claridad en el contexto de nuestro pasado.

ABSTRACT
The microscopic analysis of coprolites belonging to the fauna of sloths of Cuba is carried out for the first time. The herbivore character of these animals has been demonstrated and inferred starting from the structure of the molars and for likeness with their ancestry. The present work carries out a contribution to this knowledge in the sense of exemplifying vegetable groups consumed by these animals starting from the study of the contained starches in fossil coprolites. The samples come from the Ciego Montero, Cienfuegos province and Quemado de Güines, Villa Clara province, both places to the centre of the country. The diet of these animals and carrying out paleoenviromental inferences are aspects that today have bigger clarity in the context of our past.
